STUDICODE online dementia course rated with grade A by 61% of students

course evaluation results

The STUDICODE consortium is delighted to publish the course evaluation provided by students at the project sites. Overall, 110 students in Ljubljana, Bucharest, Bratislava and Munich responded to the STUDICODE feedback questionnaire after completing the STUDICODE online dementia course.

The online dementia course is a 90-minute, self-paced course accessible to enrolled students at the partner sites. The course aims at complementing existing lectures in psychiatry at the sites by focusing on person-centred dementia care and stressing the relevance of interprofessional collaboration. Main didactic features of the course include image hotspots, virtual flashcards, drag and drop games, as well as interviews, animated videos and scenario games.
fter the first cohort of students completed and reviewed the course during the winter term 2022/2023, the consortium analysed their feedback.

Main feedback provided by students:

83% of students stated that the scope of topics featured in the course was “exactly right”. Moreover, 82% of students stated that the depth of information was “exactly right”. This is very important to the consortium as it demonstrates that complementary information on dementia is valuable to students in addition to the existing lectures.

Regarding the various media formats, students enjoyed their diverse usage. 74% stated that they found the media formats useful. This clearly shows that digital tools can contribute to a positive learning experience. Furthermore, 69% of students stated that they found the media formats to be motivational. This indicates that the digital formats used in the STUDICODE course can raise interest in the topic of dementia and encourage students to learn more about the topic. In addition, 63% of students described the media formats as “entertaining”. This shows that the overall course structure met the envisioned STUDICODE goal of advancing the knowledge of students regarding dementia by a modern, entertaining online course.

In regards to the learning outcomes, 80% of students stated that they obtained a better understanding of collaborative dementia care through the online course. It is an excellent testament to STUDICODE achieving its goal of using entertaining media formats for teaching about dementia. Also, 66% of students stated that they obtained a clearer concept of dementia by completing the online course. This is important feedback as it suggests that the information provided in the existing lectures might not be fully sufficient from the viewpoint of students.

Overall, 61% of students rated the STUDICODE online dementia course with grade A (Schulnote 1). This demonstrates that the current online course meets the expectations and needs identified by the consortium at the beginning of the project.

However, the student feedback also indicates aspects where the course could be further improved for the upcoming term. In order to undertake such a refinement of the course, the consortium will meet virtually in June and discuss its approach for the content refinement. The evaluation results will be shared at the upcoming Multiplier Event and be included in the IO "policy recommendations".
